Dream/Nightmare House

I have just spent a great weekend camping in the Lake District.

Yes it was raining when I put the tent up and yes the tent was wet when I took it down as I said I was camping in the Lake District in June.

The campsite itself was located in the middle of nowhere outside Penrith and involved driving along loads of single track country lanes to reach it.

These single tracks whilst having farms located on them also were home to some amazing properties close by as well.

One house looked like someone’s dream house. It looked like it had been a massive vicarage in the past with an amazing garden complete with a pond and water feature. I could easily imagine myself on a warm summers afternoon relaxing in the gardens with a full English cream tea taking in the views.

So how do I know of all these amazing properties?  It’s because my sat nav worked out I could save a minute here and there by taking these detours. I must admit I did ignore a few as they looked more like tractor paths.

Driverless cars in the future will also follow sat nav directions and unlike me will take in all of the detour routes that it will be advised to take to save time.

As such I could be living in my dream house in the countryside and eating my cream tea in the garden only to then find that my house is on a sat nav cut through route.

My tranquil sunny summer afternoon will be ruined by driverless car after driverless car zooming past my house.

This may be prove tricky for anyone now on the look out of their dream house in the countryside. You won’t know at this stage whether your house could be on a driverless car cut through or not.

Also whilst your house might not be on a cut through now any minor tweaks to surrounding roads could have an impact.

What a dilemma.

All I can suggest now to potential dream house buyers is to look for local towns or attractions and plot some routes on your sat nav that holiday makers or locals might make in and around where your dream house is.

If your dream houses lane comes up on any of the routes it might make you want you to think twice about buying it.

Also it might explain why the owners are keen to sell it in the first place.

So do your homework to make sure your dream house doesn’t turn into a nightmare one thanks to the arrival of the driverless car revolution.
