The Ghost of Christmas Future

“ITTTTSSSSS CHRISTMAS”

“It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas”. Amazon vans are out at 7.00 in the morning and there are Christmas lights in gardens to cheer up your walk home.

This got me thinking if the Ghost of Christmas Future was to visit me what would it show me about driverless vehicles in the future.

Amazon vans would definitely be driver less for a start. They would run 24-7 only stopping when they needed recharging. This is assuming drive as you charge roads are still being rolled out otherwise they really could be running 24-7.

Click and Collect. Oh how I love being asked to go and click and collect something from some god awful shopping centre that I only visit once a year, at bloody Christmas (NOT). Driverless vehicles will now be able to do this task for me. HURRAH.

Christmas parties might become even better as one of you won’t need to not be drinking and so the game of deciding who will be the driver that night will disappear.

Also the “HOW MUCH IS THAT TAXI” and “Next taxi won’t be for 60 minutes” statements should hopefully be made redundant as your own driverless car will drop you off and pick you up for free whenever you want. Just remember if you do throw up it is your own car and you will need to clean up your own mess in the morning.

You can still take the family Christmas tree shopping and not have to make  two trips because the kids AND the tree will not fit in the car. Two trips may still be needed but the driverless car will do one of them for you.

Attending Christmas Markets will be great as the mulled wine stalls will mean anyone who want a mulled wine can have one as your car will wing you back home.

Will driving after 11 o’clock at night over Christmas period be any safer?. Not everyone will want or have a driverless car. Therefore whilst it should be safer there is still the chance of drunken idiots being out as well.

Christmas Day itself will have some extra pluses and minuses.

Grand parents wherever they live will be always be able to visit using a driverless car.

“I had too much to drink last night and I can’t drive” excuse will be made redundant.

“The turkey is still frozen I will send it out in the car with the heater on that should do the trick”

Everyone who wants a drink on Christmas Day can now safely have one as they know they will not need to drive later on.

Unless Guests don’t have a driverless car then they will always be able to arrive and unfortunately be able to leave at any time without worrying about the weather even snow.

Guests can arrive and leave at odd times on the days over the Christmas period as they will not be driving and will be able to sleep in the car either on the way there or on the way back.

So if you are dreading Christmas for any of the above reasons then there may be a light at the end of the tunnel if the Ghost of Christmas Future is correct.

Happy Christmas.
